Vanguard!by cgron

Here he is again. This is my first fully drawn tablet picture. Normally I draw on paper first, then scan and ink on computer. This one was sketched out on tablet, and inked, colored. Took about 45 minutes from start to finish.

45 minutes?! I'd kill to turn something around that fast. Looks great too.

Thanks man. Yeah I don't know why, I've just always been able to draw fast.

Awesome job stepping out of your comfort zone. It's a great way to improve. I think I like his teal colour scheme better though, looked more advanced.

Thanks man, and I'm not sure I can replicate the color scheme. The teal one was like... just me totally winging everything. And the way I did it was extremely complicated, so much so that I don't even remember how to do it. I'll try and color him like that next time though and see what happens!

My analysis:

Colour it as normal, then use a dodge to highlight where you want it to shine. Then add glint and glare making it sparkle at those locations. You also used glow filters on some of your bright areas. Additionally you had some texture fills on the red areas.
That's how I think you did it.

But by all means, play with different ways to get the same effect, you definitely learn a lot.
